Solar Hot Water System
Campus Center
³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s first reusable energy effort, the Campus Center’s solar thermal system provides direct heat transfer for domestic hot water for the entire building, a hub of ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ student, professional staff, and community activity. The 237,615 MMBtu system consists of 21 flat-plate collectors with five 105-gallon storage tanks and includes a real-time digital monitor to provide information about kilowatt hours produced, temperature of the array on the roof, and temperature of water in the tanks.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
Bishop Street Bus Shelter
Twelve solar panels on the roof of the Bishop Street bus shelter, installed by ReVision Energy, are used to power the electric car charging stations in the lot.
Field Trip Inspires Sustainability Project
Danielle Ripich Commons
The 5.12 kilowatt, 16 panel solar array on the Danielle Ripich Commons building provides energy to power the Biddeford campus’ electric car charging station with an annual production of 5,322 kilowatt hours.
Arthur P. Girard Marine Science Center
The 54-panel array on the Marine Science Center roof annual produces 20.72 megawatt hours with an annual carbon reduction of 10.9 MTCDE. The system generates enough energy to power two average size homes and offsets seven to ten percent of the Marine Science Center’s annual building use.
Harold Alfond Forum
The 804-panel solar array atop the Harold Alfond Forum is expected to generate 353,531 kilowatt-hours annually — enough to power 32 homes per year. The solar array boasts an impressive 321.6-kilowatt system with the initiative making a substantial reduction in carbon emissions. The project is slated to offset the equivalent of more than 173 metric tons of carbon dioxide each yea and anticipated to produce the equivalent of nearly 3% of the Biddeford Campus’ annual electricity consumption.
