About UNE Morocco

³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Morocco, the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Tangier Campus, is a one-of-a-kind facility — and the first American university campus to be established in Morocco. Aiming to build connections between citizens of the U.S., Morocco, Europe and beyond, ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Morocco offers both enriching global education opportunities and cultural initiatives designed to foster international understanding.

Why Tangier?

There is no better place for ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ to be than in the world-renowned city of Tangier. This glimmering "white city" has been home to an international contingent of artists and writers. A port city with influences from all around the world, Tangier is one of the major cultural, economic and political hubs of the region, serving as a nexus for new ideas and cross-cultural dialogue.

OUR CAMPUS

³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s state-of-the-art Tangier Campus, situated in the heart of the city, consists of two buildings and a sports court. Our Academic Building houses cutting-edge labs and classrooms, office space and a modern auditorium, while our Residential Building includes spacious, well-appointed rooms, fitness and studio space, and an elegant cafeteria. Both buildings reflect Morocco’s famous architectural style and are designed to meet the high modern standards of similar educational facilities.

History of ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Morocco

³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Morocco is the brainchild of ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Professor Emeritus Anouar Majid, who worked since 2004 to bring ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ to Morocco. When Majid was appointed as the inaugural Associate Provost in 2010 and later Vice President for Global Affairs to globalize ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s footprint, he set out to establish ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s campus in his native city of Tangier. ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s leadership and trustees gave the project their unqualified support. The campus was dedicated in 2014 and has become a much-coveted destination for our students. Majid managed the Tangier campus from its inception in 2010 through 2023.

As a result of the enthusiastic support of former President Danielle N. Ripich and her dedicated Board of Trustees, senior administration, and inaugural faculty — as well as that of the current administration under President James Herbert — ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s campus in Tangier continues to thrive.

The appointment of Douaa Imran as managing director of the Tangier Campus in 2023 and the longstanding contributions of Emily Dragon, assistant vice president for Global Operations, have allowed the campus to flourish, having welcomed over 750 students since opening in 2014. The campus has also hosted nearly 70 graduate students from ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree programs through short-term global study opportunities and immersive clinical experiences.

In October of 2024, the campus celebrated its 10th year of international and cultural exchange in the city of Tangier, a testament to the campus’s thoughtful leadership under Imran and the University’s commitment to cultivating meaningful global connections.
