Location
Meghan Fonken PA-C, MMS joined the PA Program at UNE in September 2024. She completed her undergraduate studies at Boise State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with emphasis in Biochemistry in 2011. During this time, she was actively involved in a campus research laboratory, working on potential antibiotics related to Lyme disease and targeting specific nucleosidases involved in the adenine and methionine recovery process of Borrelia burgdorferi. Continuing on to graduate school, she completed a Masters in Medical Science of Physician Assistant Studies at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona in 2013.
To start her clinical career, she received the opportunity to complete a 9-month PGPA emergency medicine internship at a local hospital in Sun City West, Arizona. She continued on to work in multiple emergency departments across Arizona and Idaho, enjoying the opportunity to serve a broad range of diverse patient populations. After many years in emergency medicine, she was then hired as a non-clinical PA with the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner, where she delved into forensic medicine and utilized her clinical knowledge in a novel role for PAs to work alongside forensic pathologists. Her passion for medicine and education continued with each passing year and she has pursued further graduate classes with interests including health policy, epidemiology, and geospatial technology applications in public health.
She is new to Maine and enjoying exploring both the local area as well as across the New England states. In her free time, she likes to golf, rock climb, yoga, hike, creative writing and editing projects, read (especially about astrophysics and history), and travel to as many countries as she can.
