Dr. Bass was trained as a zoologist and has been lucky to work on invertebrates, fish, reptiles, birds and mammals. While Molecular Ecology is a broad descriptor of her field of study, previous research on stranded and rehabilitated marine mammals led to deeper interests in the field of disease ecology and the concept of ecosystem health. In addition, she is interested in the One Health approach as a strategy to link multiple disciplines in the study, prevention and management of emerging diseases, and the search for solutions to other wicked problems. Dr. Bass teaches courses in genetics, parasitology and One Health.
