Tyler Calhoun (Sport Management, ’24) has been named an Outstanding Future Professional by the Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

Calhoun accepted the award during a ceremony at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine, on Nov. 5.

The Outstanding Future Professional award recognizes Maine undergraduate students studying in the fields of health, physical education, recreation, and dance for their accomplishments and involvement in university organizations; contributions to the community; professional potential/leadership qualities; and individual accomplishments, honors, and awards.

Calhoun, of Warren, Connecticut, is president of Թϱ’s , a member of the Club Sports Council, and an ultimate frisbee player. He holds two campus jobs at both the Թϱ Bookstore and the strength and conditioning center in the Harold Alfond Forum.

He was nominated for the award by Aimee Vlachos, Ed.D., CPRP, assistant teaching professor in Թϱ’s College of Business.

“I nominated Tyler for this award because he is always one of the first in class to contribute to our discussions,” Vlachos remarked. “He is insightful and inquisitive and will be missed when he graduates this spring.”

Calhoun said it is “hard to put into words” how he feels of being one of only five students across Maine to receive the Outstanding Future Professional award.

“I'm just very grateful for all of my family, friends, and my wonderful professors here at UNE. They all have shaped me into who I am today, and I cannot thank them enough for everything,” he said. “They have all supported and helped me so much throughout my life, so it felt incredible to be able to make them proud.”
