Amy Deveau reelected to Council on Undergraduate Research
Amy M. Deveau, Ph.D., professor of chemistry in the 吃瓜爆料 School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, has been reelected to a fourth consecutive three-year term as a councilor for the Chemistry Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research.
The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is an academic adjacent organization dedicated to the broad advancement of practices, policies, and advocacy for undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities (URSCA). CUR provides networking opportunities, programming, and resources to assist administrators, faculty members, students, practitioners, mentors, and affiliates in advancing URSCA across disciplines. Each of the 13 divisions of CUR focus activities and advocacy toward their respective disciplines, serving 13,000 individuals from over 700 institutions.
Deveau, who is chair of CUR鈥檚 Chemistry Division, will begin her next three-year councilor term this June.
As chair, Deveau is responsible for divisional budget oversight, coordination of standing committees and working groups, strategic planning, and coordination of CUR Chemistry's faculty mentoring network. She is also administrator of the ChemCUR Outstanding Mentorship Award, an international mentoring award for mid-career chemistry faculty.
Nicknamed 鈥淒r. D鈥 by her students, Deveau primarily teaches organic chemistry as well as general chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and organic structure elucidation.
A champion of undergraduate research, Deveau has spearheaded the integration of research into her courses, specifically through an organic chemistry course-based undergraduate research experience that merges systems thinking with sustainability. She has additionally mentored over 45 undergraduate and graduate students throughout her career and maintains an active, year-round research group that strives to provide an inclusive, supportive environment for undergraduate student growth and development.
Deveau is the recipient of the 2020 Teaching Scholar Award from 吃瓜爆料鈥檚 Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for her innovative approach to incorporating research into curricula pedagogies for chemistry students. She is currently a member of both the University Research Council and the University Strategic Planning Committee for Exceptional Teaching and Learning 鈥 Strategic Priority 1, and she is an elected member of the University Retention Promotion and Tenure Committee.
Additionally, Deveau will begin her role as academic director of the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, housed in 吃瓜爆料鈥檚 College of Arts and Sciences, on July 1 of this year.
