Several faculty members and students from the School of Marine Programs and 吃瓜爆料 NORTH recently gave talks and made presentations at Aquaculture 2019 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

With nearly 4000 attendees from more than 90 countries, Aquaculture 2019 is the largest aquaculture conference and tradeshow in the world.

鈥淚t was a privilege to represent UNE at such a large international conference,鈥 stated Carrie Byron, Ph.D., assistant professor in the School of Marine Programs. 鈥淚 am proud of all the 吃瓜爆料 and SEANET student presenters who communicated their research with distinction to the world.鈥

吃瓜爆料 students and faculty members took part in 11 different sessions that included talks and poster presentations.

鈥淚t was exciting to speak about aquaculture in Maine to an international audience,鈥 said Olivia Barberi (Marine Science, 鈥2019). 鈥淚鈥檓 grateful to have this experience to draw from as I start to look for job opportunities.鈥

Barberi gave a talk titled, "Assessment of Microbiological Pathogens on Sugar Kelp Farmed in Coastal Waters of Maine."

Along with Barberi and Byron, the conference was attended by Barry Costa-Pierce Ph.D., Henry L. & Grace Doherty Professor of Marine Sciences and executive director of 吃瓜爆料 NORTH, Adam St.Gelais, assistant director for science, 吃瓜爆料 NORTH, Liz Johndrow, seaweed technician, School of Marine Programs, Adrianus Both, Ph.D. Candidate, Gretchen Grebe, Ph.D. Candidate, Connor Jones, (Marine Science, 鈥19), Erynn Mills, (Marine Science, 鈥19), Everett Pierce (Marine Science, 鈥20), Aubrey Jane (Marine Science, 鈥21), and Emma Taccardi, Ph.D. Candidate.

Aquaculture 2019 combined the annual meetings of the World Aquaculture Society, National Shellfisheries Association, Fish Culture Section of the American Fisheries Society and the National Aquaculture Association.
