³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Environmental studies professor Noah Perlut gives lecture on urban gull nesting
Noah Perlut, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Environmental Studies, gave a lecture on April 5 on rooftop gulls at the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
The lecture discussed research by Perlut and his students on herring gulls that nest on building ledges and roofs in downtown Portland, rather than on islands, their traditional nesting ground.
Perlut first began studying the phenomenon of rooftop nesting in gulls about seven years ago after noticing the gull behavior in Portland. Among other things, Perlut’s research examines the costs and benefits to the gulls of urban nesting.
The lecture was part of a Maine Wildlife Series presented by Thomas Memorial Library.
