Vermont media reports on ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s dental externship program
The Bennington Banner and Manchester Journal, two Vermont newspapers, have published articles on the College of Dental Medicine’s student externship program. of Arlington, Vermont, was selected as a community-based externship site, where ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ student Nicholas Guy (’18) will begin his training on September 18, 2017.
"We are excited to be able to serve the people of Bennington County in a meaningful way, providing a service that so many are in need of," said Battenkill Valley Health Center’s Stephen Phillips, D.D.S., adjunct assistant professor in the College of Dental Medicine. "Partnering with ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ is just one way we can expand access to the services we provide."
CEO of Battenkill Valley Health Center Grace Gilbert-Davis added, "We see this as the first step of bringing many individuals into our community. We are looking for younger providers, both dental and medical, who want to buy a home here, raise their children here, and help grow Arlington."
The practice will continue to welcome three ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ dental students per year. Through the course of their externship, these students will learn how to provide care for diverse patient populations, attain real-world experience, witness firsthand the need for greater access to oral health care in Northern New England, and experience the importance of social responsibility and leadership as a dental professional.
