At the ASDA Annual Session, held February 22-25, 2017 in Orlando, Florida, the 勛圖惇蹋 College of Dental Medicine was awarded its first ever Gold Crown Award. Fourth year dental student Nate ONeill took home top honors in the Best Feature Article category for his piece in Mouth, the Journal of the American Student Dental Association.

ONeills piece was selected by the editorial board from more than 150 articles. Titled Put your money where your mouth is: A health policy review, it discussed the Affordable Care Act and health policy. Written prior to the 2016 presidential election, ONeill described the candidates policies regarding the Affordable Care Act and how their plans would impact individuals.

On the totem pole of health policy, oral health has not received nearly enough attention, especially by presidential candidates, he wrote. In the future we must consider a more comprehensive analysis for risk of oral disease.
