The power of personal stories: Video captures ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Legacy Storyteller’s program

Linda B. Laskey

For the past two years, the students from the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Westbrook College of Health Professions have been participating in a program developed by the Maine chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The program, called Legacy Storytellers, captures the personal stories of older adults who have mild or moderate Alzheimer’s disease.

During the four-to-five week program, the students work closely with the older adults to record their life stories. They talk about their childhoods, their families, and special memories from throughout their lives. The students use those stories, along with photographs, to build a narrative captured in a book.

The program preserves the invaluable wisdom and experiences of affected individuals for family members and future generations.
