‘WCSH’ and the ‘York County Coast Star’ feature Ed Bilsky’s discussion of addiction prevention
Ed Bilsky, Ph.D., vice president for Research and Scholarship, spoke with WCSH at a preview of the Brain, Body and Wellness Fair, in which students of Biddeford’s Saint James School visited the Biddeford Campus. This interactive event featured a variety of engaging, educational stations, including a dissection table, EEG setup and ‘concussion goggle’ demonstration.
Bilsky stressed the need for early education about brain safety and addiction prevention, saying “by talking candidly with [young adults] about some of the effects these drugs have on the nervous system, I think we have a better educated citizenry.â€
Bilsky also spoke in Kennebunkport at a community forum on the opioid epidemic. As reported in the York County Coast Star, he said that prevention and early education are critical in saving lives and preventing addiction. ““Start with activities that engage parents and the community,†Bilsky encouraged. “Offer a wide variety of after school programs to keep kids and parents socially engaged.â€
