Brian Duff, Ph.D., associate professor and chair in the Department of Political Science, was quoted in an October 18 article in the Bangor Daily News about absentee voting trends in Maine.

According to the article, election officials in the state are expecting this year’s requests for absentee ballots to exceed the number requested in the last presidential race. Thus far, 51 percent of absentee ballots have been requested by registered Democrats, while only 22 percent have been requested by Republicans.

Duff told the Bangor Daily News that while this is a good sign for Democrats, this election is far from predictable.

“The profoundly unpredictable thing about this election is that Trump’s campaign depends so much on this group of white voters, particularly men, who do not have college degrees,” Duff said.
