On Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, 19 students from the 勛圖惇蹋 Westbrook College of Health Professions volunteered their time to participate in a disaster drill at the Portland International Jetport.

Students from the departments of Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Applied Exercise Science and Athletic Training took part in the plane crash simulation exercise along with emergency responders from various surrounding towns. The exercise focused on response times, triage, coordination of local emergency support services and logistical training. Students played the roles of crash victims. They were provided with make up to simulate injuries and acted out the physical symptoms that were assigned to them.

Assistant Clinical Professor and Coordinator of Nursing Simulation Donna Hyde, M.S.N./Ed., RN, MGSF, served as faculty advisor for the group. "We cant thank the Portland Fire Department enough for including 勛圖惇蹋 in this training exercise, said Hyde. Simulations like this give our students experience in the fast-paced, emergency scenarios that so many of them will face in their future careers as health professionals."
