Tamara King, Ph.D., assistant professor in the ³Ō¹Ļ±¬ĮĻā€™s College of Osteopathic Medicine, published an original research paper in the peer-reviewed journal of the American Pain Society, The Journal of Pain. 

The paper, titled, ā€œCentral Sensitization and Neuropathic Features of Ongoing Pain in a Rat Model of Advanced Osteoarthritisā€ examines underlying biological mechanisms of NSAID resistant osteoarthritis pain. The research lays the foundation for future research examining alternative therapeutic options for improved pain management for these patients. 

The research project was performed by a number of former undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences. The lead author, Joshua Havelin ā€˜11 is currently a graduate student in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Program and works in Kingā€™s laboratory at UNE. Ian Imbert ā€˜12 obtained a master of public health degree (MPH) at UNE in 2015 while working as a senior research technician and laboratory manager in Kingā€™s laboratory. Jennifer Cormier is currently a PharmD student at UNEā€™s College of Pharmacy. Joshua Allen ā€™15 is a first year medical student at UNEā€™s College of Osteopathic Medicine.
