ā€˜Marketplaceā€™ article recalls David Besedaā€™s role in New Yorkā€™s Right to Shelter policy

David Beseda, M.S.W., adjunct faculty member in the Department of Society, Culture and Languages, was mentioned in a September 30, 2015 article in ā€œMarketplace,ā€ the online site of the ā€œMarketplaceā€ radio program featured on National Public Radio (NPR).

The article, ā€œBehind New Yorkā€™s Right to Shelter policy,ā€ mentions Besedaā€™s role in the 1979 law suit brought against the governor of New York for failing to provide ā€œcare and support of the needyā€ in the form of shelter in New York City ā€“ a case that resulted in the Right to Shelter policy.

According to the article, Beseda provided testimony about the inhumane conditions of New York City shelters that was so powerful, it spurred New York City officials to negotiate a solution.
