³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ CHANNELS project team visits Congressman Michaud in D.C.

Jennifer Morton, DNP, MS, MPH, RN, director of Nursing and associate professor; Sharon Herrick; Malual Mabur and Siyad Ahmed of ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s CHANNELS project, visited Congressman Mike Michaud on April 30, 2014, in Washington, D.C. to discuss health outreach to Portland’s immigrant community.

 CHANNELS is a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funded Nursing and Interprofessional Education (IPE) collaboration with the City of Portland’s Division of Public Health and Portland Community Health Center aimed at improving the health of immigrant communities through team-based innovations in health care.

Malual Mabur and Siyad Ahmed are CHANNELS community health outreach workers.  Mabur is Arabic speaking and serves Portland’s Middle Eastern and South Sudanese immigrant communities.  Ahmed is Somali speaking and serves Portland’s Somali immigrant communities. Morton is Project Director and Herrick is Research Coordinator for CHANNELS.
