First annual leadership conference held jointly by two student groups
³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Society and the Inter-professional Student Advisory Team collaborated on April 18, 2014, for their first annual Leadership Conference. Students from all around the Portland Campus came together to participate in the Leadership Is For Everyone (LIFE) Conference.
This event promoted the importance of leadership among all health professions and brought students together to enhance the talent, skill, and effectiveness of our leaders. Several student organizations presented on ways to enhance leadership profiles through resume workshops, elevator speeches, professional attire, and tips for giving a powerful handshake during networking.
Devon Anne Sherwood, PharmD, BCPP, assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy, facilitated a discussion on the importance of advocating as leaders in order to progress professionally. Students also took a leadership quiz to assess their strengths and weaknesses and then split into groups to perform leadership building exercises.
Closing remarks were made by College of Pharmacy Dean Gayle Brazeau, Ph.D., whose passion for leadership is seen through her active involvement on campus.
The two organizations look forward to holding their annual Leadership conference next year in order to continue efforts to foster leadership development among health professions.
