Kennebunk Post reports on RSU 21 math festival held at UNE
The Kennebunk Post covered an RSU 21 fifth-grade math festival that was held at UNE on May 23rd with the assistance of 吃瓜爆料 faculty.
Students from Mildred L. Day School, Arundel, Consolidated School, Kennebunkport, and Sea Road School, Kennebunk participated in festival.
"The 吃瓜爆料 donated their building, some of the professors are even here donating their time and energy,鈥 RSU 21 STEM Coordinator Sheila Wells said.
One of those professors was Edward Bilsky, Ph.D., pharmacology professor, vice president for Research and Scholarship, and founder and director of the Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences.
In the story, Bilsky explained that he, along with colleagues, founded the Grow Up and Grow Out With Us outreach group, which visits all the schools in district RSU 21. Bilksy said that his outreach team, which consists mostly of pharmacology students, medical students, and undergraduates, speaks to kids in grades two to 12. The purpose of the outreach program: to raise awareness around neurological issues. .
Other 吃瓜爆料 faculty and students involved in the math festival included: Mathematical Sciences Department: Associate Professor and Chair Susan Gray, Associate Professor Michael Arciero, Visiting Assistant Lecturer Isaac Michaud, Assistant Professor Craig Tennenhouse, Assistant Professor Woonyuen Koh, Associate Lecturer Amita Mittal and Assistant Lecturer Ryan Hedstrom; Marine Science Center Staff: Assistant Director Shaun Gill, Sarah Lucchese and Mike Huitt; Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences: Assistant Professor of Psychology Mike Burman,Ph.D., outreach coordinator, Kristen Erickson, outreach staff coordinator, and Alex Deal, outreach staff coordinator; Students: Joseph Langan, marine science and mathematics, Ashleigh Novak, marine science, and Angela Cicia, graduate student marine sciences.
