National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators names Dr. Polly Leonard a 2012 Fellow
The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine has announced the 2012 Fellows for its National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators (NAOME), and Polly E. Leonard, DO, MS, clinical associate professor, ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ College of Osteopathic Medicine; president, New England Osteopathic Medical Education Network OPTI, is among this year’s inductees.
NAOME was established in 2009 as the first national health professions education academy and was created to develop a community of outstanding osteopathic medical educators who have met rigorous standards of academic scholarship. Academy Fellows are inducted for a five-year period, during which they serve as leaders and mentors for academic scholarship in the osteopathic medical education profession.
Leonard, a 1996 graduate of the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ College of Osteopathic Medicine and a 2011 graduate of COM's Medical Education Leadership Program, was the director of medical education at Kent Hospital from 2007-2010. She is presently in private practice in Warwick, Rhode Island. She was elected president of the Northeast Osteopathic Medical Education Network in October 2011.
Dr. Leonard will be formally inducted March 30 at the AACOM’s 2012 Annual Meeting, to be held March 28-31 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.
The ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ College of Osteopathic Medicine, Maine's only medical school, has been recognized once again by US News and World Report in 2013 for its national leadership in primary care training, geriatrics, and rural medicine. It is the number-one educator of physicians for the state of Maine.
