In Memoriam: Richard F. Bond
It is with deep sadness that I share with you that former Westbrook College Dean Richard F. Bond passed away on August 2, 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Waltman of Cousins Island, and his son Michael of Winthrop, and six grandchildren. His wife of more than 40 years, Isobel, died in 1983.
The services will be private, but plans for a memorial service at UNE are underway.
A graduate of Bowdoin, Westbrook College welcomed him in 1953 as Director of Admissions and as a professor of English Literature. Three years later, he was appointed Dean of Westbrook College, which he led for many years, overseeing major advancements including the Dental Hygiene and Nursing Departments. He retired in 1980.
His connection to Westbrook College remains strong through alumni. They remember fondly that his door was always open to every student, and he was known as a tireless advocate and effective leader for faculty members.
We will miss him, but appreciate the important role he had in the history of Westbrook College, and the future of ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ.
His family has asked that any expressions of condolence be sent to the Alumni Advancement Office, ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ, 716 Stevens Avenue, Portland, ME 04103.
