Artwork by Sarah Gorham on exhibit at UNE's Campus Center

Artist Sarah Gorham will present "Reflections" in the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Campus Center Gallery space located on the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Biddeford Campus from July 2 to August 1, 2012.  The exhibit features a beautiful, vibrant, and peaceful collection of acrylics on paper, exploring colorful interpretations of the water's edge.

This series is a continual 20-plus year investigation of painted water reflections. These particular works were created using both gestural palette knife and painted brush marks. They explore colorful combinations evocative of memories of water as well as landscape, while others utilize expressive and varied application of pigment to explore the layers in reflections.  All together, they create moments for meditative reflection on color, mood, and life.

Gorham first began painting more realistic landscapes and serene scenes of water when she was in high school.  She received her undergraduate degree in painting from Wittenberg University, Ohio; completed post-graduate study through Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy; received her MAT Masters in Teaching from Tufts University; and most recently received her MFA from Maine College of Art in 2001.

Gorham's work has evolved from varied interests and inspirations.  The images that bring her the greatest amount of peace and affirmation are those of water in its varied states: resting still after a storm passed; a stagnant pond; a calm ocean vista, or a puddle filling on a dirt roadside.

Gorham has exhibited extensively in both Maine and Massachusetts. In addition, she was part of the 2011 traveling group exhibition sponsored by Lily Oncology. Currently Gorham is a visiting assistant professor in the Arts and Communications Department at the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ.. She teaches painting and topic courses such as The Painted Book and Art from Nature.  She has an evolving website, which can be found at sarahgorhamartist.com.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.  ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ's Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine.  Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  For more information, contact Diane Noble at dbmn27@maine.rr.com.
