Թϱ faculty and administrators participate in 'Collaborating Across Borders'

Twelve Թϱ  faculty/administrators participated in the international interprofessional education conference, “Collaborating Across Borders,” in Tucson, Ariz., November 19-22.  Educators, clinicians, researchers, policymakers and students gathered to discuss and share best practices in interprofessional education, practice and policy, including competitive, peer-reviewed papers/posters.   The Թϱ participants/authors gave scholarly presentations on the following topics:

  1. “Simulation for interprofessional education with first year students”, a demonstration project presented by Dawne-Marie Dunbar (Nursing) and Chris Rizzo (Athletic Training).
  2. “Interprofessional education: Developing the context for organizational change”, a workshop presented by Shelley Cohen-Konrad (IPEC Director/ Social Work) and Karen Pardue (WCHP Dean’s office).
  3. “Theater, interprofessional practice, and eating disorders: The thin line”, a workshop presented by Cathy Plourde (WCHP Deans office), Shelley Cohen-Konrad and Dawne-Marie Dunbar. 
  4. “Coming together, teaching together: Using Appreciative Inquiry to design and implement an interprofessional curriculum”, a workshop presented by Karen Pardue, Leah Coplon (Nursing), Dawne- Marie Dunbar, Kathryn Loukas (Occupational Therapy), and Jane Walsh (Dental Hygiene).
  5. “Readers Theater: Using innovative pedagogy to promote interprofessional collaboration”, workshop presented by Karen Pardue, with play readings by Leah Coplon, Christopher Rizzo, Jane Walsh, Kathryn Loukas, and Dawne-Marie Dunbar.
  6. “First year students’ perceptions of interprofessional learning and collaborative working”, a research paper presented by Karen Pardue
  7. “Transcultural healthcare immersion: Learning about collaborative practice in global primary care settings”, a workshop authored by Jennifer Morton, Shelley Cohen-Konrad and Trisha Mason; presented by Shelley Cohen-Konrad and Trisha Mason (WCHP Service Learning Coordinator).
  8. “Transdisciplinary playgroup”, a poster authored by Eileen Ricci (Physical Therapy) and Kathryn Loukas – presented by Kathryn Loukas.
  9. “Building a sustainable academic community partnership: Focus on fall prevention”, a poster authored by Nancy MacRae (Occupational Therapy) and Betsey Gray (Social Work) – presented by Nancy MacRae.
