³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ College of Osteopathic Medicine student-alumni benefit golf tournament
On Sunday October 10, 2010, the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ College of Osteopathic Medicine will hold a student-alumni benefit golf tournament at Nonesuch River Golf Club in Scarborough, Maine. In what the College plans to make an annual tradition, students, alumni, family members and friends from the community will come together to raise money for a scholarship fund established by Dr. Marc B. Hahn, Senior Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine to help defray the cost of medical education for students.
Dedicated to helping students become skilled primary care physicians and specialty clinicians, the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ College of Osteopathic Medicine is the medical school which supplies the greatest numbers of physicians to the State of Maine. Its graduates are the highest proportion of those represented among the practitioners working in medically under-served communities of Maine and New England. Yet the costs of medical education are rising, and ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ students are currently graduating with the highest debt burden of medical schools in the country.
The scholarship fund, which represents a partnership between the College, the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ, and the Finance Authority of Maine's Doctors for Maine's Future program, will support students in their studies to become the next generation of practitioners in areas of need across the region, the nation and the world. By helping students to graduate with lower debt burdens we can encourage them to pursue practice in our region and ensure that Maine continues to welcome skilled and dedicated young doctors.
You are encouraged to join us for an early-morning round of golf beginning at 7:30 a.m. Your contribution of $125 will include a welcome breakfast, golfing, golf cart, post-round barbeque, and a chance to win prizes. Questions can be directed to unecomgolf@gmail.com.
