Announcement of Jennifer Morton's Medical Humanitarian Award covered by Portland Press Herald

Jennifer Morton, D.N.P., M.S., M.P.H., one of the recipients of a Medical Humanitarian Awards presented by the Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership, was profiled in a Nov. 22, 2010 story on the awards that appeared in the  and Sun Journal (Lewiston). Morton is assistant professor with joint appointments in ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ's Department of Nursing, Physician Assistant Program, and Graduate Programs in Public Health. Morton takes groups of 12 to 22 students to Ghana twice a year for two weeks. Morton's teams work side by side with local medical workers treating malaria, parasites and chronic diseases. 

"We've created a learning experience that is more than just plopping them into a clinic," Morton told the newspaper. "It's about opening their eyes and opening their hearts." Morton's connections also have led to ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ's Ghana Health Partnership, a new, broader public health partnership between ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ, the Ghana Health Service and the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. The Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership is a Portland-based trust that promotes health care innovation. The awards will be presented Nov. 30th.
