Exposing Forever Chemicals: PFAS Contamination in Maine

5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Biddeford Campus (Ripich Commons Room 204)

PFAS contamination, also known as forever chemicals, uniquely illustrates the interdependence of human health on our environment.  While the State of Maine and our municipalities grapple with the logistical considerations of safe disposal of the chemicals, we explore healthcare, environmental protection and legislative advocacy concerns of this issue.

Our panel of experts:

  • Davis Martinec, Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ
  • Dr. Paul Segal, College of Osteopathic Medicine, ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ
  • Sarah Woodbury, Director of Advocacy, Defend Our Health

Join us for the discussion to:

  • Examine how PFAS are affecting the health of local people.
  • Explore solutions for decreasing our exposure to toxic chemicals in the environment.
  • Learn about multiple approaches to solving a human-environment health issue.

This event is produced in partnership with ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Sustainability Office, Earth’s ECO, the School of Marine and Environmental Programs, and the Center for Excellence in Collaborative Education. Interprofessional competencies of Values & Ethics and Roles & Responsibilities will be addressed, and attendance can be applied toward students’ Interprofessional Honors Distinction application.
