CECE Event – The Maine Model of Corrections: Humanizing corrections through connections
The Maine Department of Corrections has transformed their operations and practices, prioritizing and emphasizing humanity and normalization across the facilities and field offices within the state’s correctional system. This wellness approach, centered in respect, rapport, and reducing stigma, has created a new correctional environment that is safe, secure, and service-oriented. The resulting policy changes, service enhancements, and human connections have created a healthier environment to tackle the major needs of the correctional population, including the opioid epidemic, education and employment, and treatment services.
Participation can be applied toward students’ IP Honors Distinction.
