ACL Rupture and Re-Injury: What puts an athlete at risk?
With more than 250,000 occurrences costing the U.S. health care system well over $1 billion each year, anterior cruciate ligament – better known as ACL – injuries are a perennially relevant topic to athletes and sports medicine practitioners.
Timothy Hewitt, PhD, FACSM, director of research at The Ohio State University Department of Sports Medicine, is an international expert in ACL injuries. He is professor in OSU’s departments of physiology and cell biology, orthopaedic surgery, family medicine, biomedical engineering, and in OSU’s School of Allied Medical Professions.
His work has been cited in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Fox News and CBS.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Athletic Training and Physical Therapy Student Clubs and the Westbrook College of Health Professions.
The ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education credits for certified athletic trainers. This lecture has been approved for 2.0 CEUs. ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s College of Osteopathic Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s), and has requested that the AOA council on CME approve this program for a maximum of 2.0 AOA Category 2-A CME credit(s). Approval is pending.
